The ride goes around Medicine Lake east through Wirth Park with a stop at Cuppa Java and return on the North Cedar Trail.
Join us for a shorter, slower version of Bruce Allyn’s ride to the Trolley running between Lake Harriet and Bde Maka Ska.
We will take the Cedar Lake trail east from Burnes Park to Bde Maka Ska, Around the east side of Bde Maka Ska and south on William Berry Parkway to the North end of Lake Harriet near the Como-Harriet Streetcar Carbarn. On the way back we will go around the west side of Bde Maka Ska and take the Cedar Lake Trail back to Burnes Park.
Below are excerpts from Bruce’s ride description.
Go back in history to ride a trolley built 117 years ago on the Como-Harriet streetcar line first opened in the 1890's
The carbarn will open for our bikes to be stored during our Trolley ride. We will board the streetcar and ride along the original right-of-way: first to Lake Harriet station and then on to Bde Maka Ska before returning to the carbarn for our bikes.
This streetcar is on the National Registry of Historic Places and has been restored to its original appearance so you will see it as it was in an earlier era. Historian, Aaron Isaacs meet us at the carbarn and will tell about the historic setting.
This is a mapless ride so the group stays together.
